As a child, I loved to draw and especially loved to color. While in the first
grade my dad taught me how to mix colors; and I really went to town. My
aunt Linda was an artist and she encouraged my brother and me in our
artistic expression by drawing with us, and supplying us with sketch books
and other art materials. My first foray into commercial art was with my
boyhood friend Robin. While we were in kindergarten we did some crayon
pictures on paper plates and then sold them door-to-door in our
neighborhood on the south side of Columbus.
As I became a teen, drawing and coloring lost their interest for me, but at
an unconscious level the artist in me was longing to be summoned and
revived.
In 2005, roughly the same time I began writing songs again, I began doing
drawings on paper plates--sound familiar? During that Christmas break I
began painting. Over the past two years I have done a number of
paintings. The process of creating these paintings has been therapeutic: I
learn about myself and about life.
I've included some of my paintings to share with you. They are done with
acrylics, and many of them have a close connection with my music. For
example, I've written songs called "Gemini," "Hidden Pictures," and
"Neptune Beach" which share both titles and themes with the paintings
below. The painting "Diagnosis" marked the genesis of the logo for
William Lloyd Creations.
